Peer Support Training for Adults with Learning Disabilities
About the course
Experiential learning within Imroc has shown that some people with learning disabilities want to become peer support workers. While they are accessing the Autism Peer Support Training, committing to attendance, and actively contributing and learning, the training is not suitably accessible to them. It was not designed by them or with them in mind.
This training has been developed to equip peer support workers with learning disabilities to deliver safe and effective care and support to people with learning disabilities and their families and carers within a variety of settings.
The course is delivered by a team of experts in learning disabilities and usually consists of trainer 1, trainer 2 and a classroom assistant.
Additional support may be identified when students complete their reasonable adjustments statement, and this support will be agreed with the individual students prior to the start of the course.
