CPD Sessions

About

This CPD certified session explores the impact of trauma on the body and simple trauma-informed somatic practices as a way of tending to distress – both our own and that of others.

It is a resource for everyone working in a mental health context and for those they are alongside in the care they offer. The session explores information about what gets called the nervous system, and stress / threat and trauma responses.

It is a chance to experience some simple techniques (embodied practices) through a sharing of some of the [Resilience Toolkit] and discuss how they feel and how useful they could be in clinical practice to increase worker resilience, relational care and improve workplace cultures.

What you will learn:

Tending Distress will enable participants to:

  • Co-reflect on the impact of distress in the body, and use the resilience toolkit to address this

  • Practice a range of short somatic techniques

  • Evaluate the benefit of applying somatic techniques

  • Discuss the nervous system threat stress defence cascade and its relevance to managing distress
