Training for Recovery College Trainers

About
The aim of Imroc's 'Training for Recovery College Trainers' course is to equip trainers with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to design, plan and facilitate effective Recovery College learning programmes that support people to recover and live well with mental health challenges and in line with the recovery principles of hope, choice and opportunity.
This customised qualification has been accredited by NCFE demonstrating the quality and rigour. It is delivered at academic Level 3, which is equivalent to further education standard (e.g. A level, or BTEC Level 3). When learners complete the course, their certificates will carry the logos of both Imroc and NCFE.
What you will learn
Training for Recovery College Trainers will enable participants to:
Explain how co-production works in the Recovery College context, including the challenges and the benefits it brings
Apply evidence-based teaching methods to the Recovery College context
Draw on their lived, learned and life experience to inform the planning and facilitation of effective Recovery College learning programmes
Explain the role of Recovery Colleges and their learning programmes as agents of change in the broader mental health system
Explain practical strategies for maximising inclusion and respecting difference in Recovery College programmes
Promote the rights of people they support and inspire recovery-focussed practices
Work in a collaborative and co-productive manner with other professionals and services
Structure
Total Duration: 36 hours (22hrs classroom time over 8 weeks and approx 18hrs of self-directed learning, assessment questions and micro teach preparation). There will be one live classroom session per week with a two week break between week 6 and 8.
Course Structure: Online teaching is via Zoom, supported by VLE (Moodle)

People who are either currently facilitating training in a Recovery, College context or planning to do so
Peer trainers (those with lived experience of mental health challenges)
Trainers with practitioner experience and knowledge, and those with specific subject expertise

Unit 2: Being an effective Recovery College trainer
Unit 3: Co-production in a Recovery College context
Unit 4: Using lived and life experiences as a Recovery College trainer
Unit 5: Quality assurance, feedback and evaluation
Unit 6: Microteach
Additional Details
Induction: No induction.
Assessment: The central assessments on the course are a course workbook with short answer questions covering each unit, plus the planning and delivery of a Microteach to the group.
