Alongside clinical and line management supervision, many peer support workers in NHS organisations receive peer-to-peer supervision. Peer-to-peer supervision is usually facilitated by another peer support worker who has completed additional supervision training and is often in a ‘senior peer support worker’ role. To date, little research has examined how this kind of peer-to-peer supervision is experienced and used in practice.
In this webinar, Dr Alie Garbutt will introduce findings from her doctoral research, a reflexive thematic analysis of experiences of peer-to-peer supervision. The research was conducted in collaboration with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and coproduced with its peer support development team. The study included seventeen interviews with peer support workers in NHS organisations in England and Wales. Attendees will have opportunities to reflect on their own experiences of peer-to-peer supervision, discuss practical implications of the research, and ask questions.

a short introduction to the research and the context in which it was conducted
an account of how peer-to-peer supervision is experienced by peer support workers in NHS settings
practical considerations for anyone developing or facilitating peer-to-peer supervision
time for questions and shared discussion.

Speakers
Dr Alie Garbutt (she/her), Cardiff University
Alie Garbutt recently completed her Clinical Psychology doctoral training at Cardiff University. She has ten years’ experience of working in NHS mental health services, including training in supervision theory and practice. Alie is an advocate for meaningful coproduction in research and service delivery. She has worked alongside peer support workers in mental health, neurodevelopmental and learning disability settings, and supported lived experience involvement in service user steering committees.
